|STANLEY JACOB, M.D. has authored 160 scientific publications and 12 medical
textbooks, including Dimethyl Sulfoxide (Basic Concepts), Biological
Actions of Dimethyl Sulfoxide, The Use of DMSO in Medicine, and
The Miracle of MSM: The Natural Solution for Pain. He serves as a

DMSO/MSM are by-products of lignin, a substance that holds wood fibers in trees together. These compounds have been said to alleviate many types of pain and inflammatory conditions, including arthritis, chronic back pain, chronic headaches, interstitial cystitis, and scleroderma. MSM has also been used to relieve allergy symptoms and strengthen body tissues and fibers.
In his medical practice at Oregon Health Sciences University, Dr. Jacob has administered DMSO and its derivative, MSM, to more than 15,000 patients. His work has taken DMSO out of the category of folk medicine. It is now widely used to treat arthritis by mainstream as well as alternative doctors, and is even recommended by Arthritis Today, a mainstream medical journal.
Dr. Jacob received his M.D. from Ohio State University, (cum laude) and served his residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He also was a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, where he later became chief surgery resident and surgery instructor. He now teaches at University of Oregon Medical School, and regularly reviews books for the "Journal of the American Medical Association."
Dr. Jacob is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. He has received numerous honors including the Kemper Foundation Research Scholar Award, the Governor's Award for Outstanding Northwest Scientist, and the German Science Award. The title of his presentation: "DMSO MSM Update."
