
| PETER BARRY CHOWKA, PHOTOJOURNALIST, has reported on alternative medicine
for more than 20 years. His breakthrough articles have covered the politics
and practice of medicine from around the world. His work has appeared widely
in print, on radio and television, and in documentary films including The
Cancer War (1983), Hoxsey: Quacks Who Cure Cancer? (1988) and
What Your Doctor Won't Tell You About Cancer (1989). He is one of the most respected journalists and commentators in medicine. Since the early 1970s he has photographed and interviewed many of the pioneers of alternative cancer therapies. His writings have been cited and republished by several Congressional Committees, including the Office of Technology Assessment. In 1992, Mr. Chowka was appointed to two of the first panels of the NIH's Office of Alternative Medicine. In 1994, Mr. Chowka began publishing online. His website, www.chowka.com, is widely considered among the most important health sites on the web. In 1980, Mr. Chowka began reporting on the Bio-Medical Center, home of the Hoxsey Therapy. The clinic had been underground in Tijuana, Mexico since 1963, but Mr. Chowka's articles and media appearances brought the Hoxsey Therapy to wide public attention.
