LEIGH ERIN CONNEALY, M.D., M.P.H.

LEIGH ERIN CONNEALY, M.D., M.P.H. received a Master’s Degree in Public Health (M.P.H.) from the University of Texas in Austin and her M.D. Degree from the University of Chicago, Illinois in 1984. She did her postgraduate training at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Connealy began Private Practice in 1986. More and more of her patients started asking about Alternative Treatments and this prompted her to learn everything she could about non-toxic protocols. In 1992, she founded the South Coast Medical Center for New Medicine where she serves as Medical Director. Her practice is firmly based in the belief that strictly treating health problems with medications does not find the root cause of the illness. Her goal is to empower and educate individuals and their families through her treatment plans, lectures, newsletters and articles.

South Coast Medical Center for New Medicine offers a wide array of diagnostic tests, therapies, services and products to assist in detoxifying, strengthening and balancing the whole person. These include Chelation Therapy, Vitamin Infusions, Ozone Therapy, Immune Enhancement, Nutritional Counseling, Live Blood Cell Analysis, Meridian Stress Assessment, Biofeedback, Cardio Spectrum Diagnostic System, Heidelberg pH Gastrogram Test, Far-Infrared Sauna, Lymphatic Therapy, Body Cleanse Ion Generator, Bone Density Evaluation, Acupuncture, Nutritional Supplements, Homeopathic Remedies, Botanicals, Mesotherapy, Skin Care and other complementary protocols. This year, Dr. Connealy launched her own line of supplements under the brand name “perfectlyhealthy.”

Dr. Connealy writes monthly columns for Coast and Health magazines, and is a biweekly guest on Frank Jordan’s Healthy, Wealthy and Wise radio show. On October 6, Dr. Connealy is giving a lecture for the students and faculty at the School of Medicine, University of California at Irvine, on “Detox for Life.”

The subject of her talk is “Metabolic Syndrome, Diabetes and Cancer.” Metabolic Syndrome is a still unappreciated epidemic, affecting an estimated 47 million Americans. Metabolic Syndrome, which is also called “Syndrome X” and “Insulin Resistance Syndrome,” is defined as a group of risk factors that includes obesity, blood fat disorders (high LDL, etc.), high blood pressure and elevated blood serum fibrinogen and C-reactive protein.

The association between Metabolic Syndrome and diabetes—and Metabolic Syndrome and cardiovascular disease—is well-known, but there is also a strong link between this condition and cancer. In her talk, Dr. Connealy will explain exactly what Metabolic Syndrome is, what the mechanisms are that make it a risk factor for cancer, and how to prevent and reverse the condition – which is itself also a preventive prescription for diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Dr. Connealy may be contacted at her South Coast Medical Center for New Medicine located in Tustin, California by phone 714-669-4446 and website www.perfectlyhealthy.net.
