JANET ALLEN

JANET ALLEN, FOOD SAFETY ACTIVIST, has been a writer, public speaker, and coordinator on important consumer issues for more than 15 years. Dedicated to providing information and encouraging awareness on a wide variety of diet and health, alternative medicine, and environmental issues, Janet has coordinated campaigns for many grassroots organizations. She has appeared as a media spokesperson on numerous radio and television programs.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Television and Film Production, she produced and hosted her own cable-TV interview show, Blue Lightning. She has also produced health and environmental segments for the Emmy Award-Winning Valley Magazine series. Beginning her activist career as an organizer and spokesperson for the Coalition to Stop Food Irradiation in 1988, and then co-founding Earthsave's Los Angeles Chapter the following year, Janet has worked as a Grassroots Coordinator for various other non-profit organizations in the last 10 years, including Jeremy Rifkin's Pure Food Campaign, Beyond Beef and the Organic Consumers Association.

As a journalist, Janet has written a health and food safety column for the California Sun newspaper, educational workbooks for McGraw-Hill Publishing and has had articles printed in numerous magazines and newsletters. In addition to representing the issues at a United Nations-sponsored conference in Geneva, the Earth Summit and International Green Party Conferences in Brazil and at numerous vegetarian and health conventions here in the United States, Janet has appeared on ABC's Home Show and will be featured in an upcoming documentary for PBS, Cloning Human Beings: The New Great Debate. Currently, she is helping to produce a PBS documentary on the widespread health, environmental and socio-economic dangers of genetically engineered foods and crops.
